COMBINED ATTACK ON HERMADA

NEW NAVAL DEVICE IN USE,

VICTORY ON A SENSATIONAL SCALE.

LONDON, Aug. 26. An Italian official report summarises the action northwards of Gorizia from August 19 as follows: The Second Army threw fourteen bridge* across the Isonzo, crossed and attacked the Bainsizza plateau, directing themselves in the direction of Oelinita. [We broke three lines, eventually capturing Monte Santo. We are now advancing on the eastern border of Bainsizza, pursuing the enemy. Our captures total 600 officers, 23,000 men, 75 guns, and much booty. WASHINGTON, Aug. 27. An official despatch from Rome describes the battle in which Britishmonitors and Italian naval forces, aircraft and land forces are jointly attacking Hermada. The Italians are using a secret naval device, which is described only ac the hugest float for mounting guns of the largest calibre yet known. It uses a new type of shells, which are now being dropped on the city of.Trieste. The Austrian warships raised their eteam, but feared to come out and face the new monster. LONDON, Aug. 27. Wireless Austrian official: We took up a new line at Bainsizza and shelled the enemy, who occupied our evacuated positions in several sectors. Our prisoners now total 250 officers and 8000 men. British and French aviatore were everywhere superior. Since the 18th we downed twelve aeroplanes. . ROME, Aug. 27. War correspondents etate that the victory was on a sensational scale. The imminent capture of Monte Santo has, terminated the Austrian bombardment of Gorizia, which had lasted for a year.
