THE VERDUN BATTLE.
HUN INFERIORITY DEMON-
STRATED
LONDON, Aug. 25
Mr Warner Allen states that the Verdun battle reveals material evidence that the enemy forces are becoming inadequate to maintain the existing line. In one tunnel at Mort Homme 600 prisoners were taken. One division lost 2500 prisoners. This division must be regarded as wiped out.
General Pershing watched the assault.
After capturing Hill 304 the French advanced two-thirds of a mile beyond the northern front.
This sueoess rounds off the crescent of the new front, and leaves the French, established in advantageous positions on the heights of the Meuse.
Except in gas and other infernal tricks, the German army has shown itself in every respect inferior in this test of battle.
