The story shows how Ben Merrill, an unscrupulous contractor, induces Jim Bludso's wife to run away with him to New Orleans. On returning from the war, Jim discovers what has happened, takes his child, and returns to his native village, where he is welcomed by Kate Taggart. Later an explosion on the Prairie Belie kills Merrill. Some time later Jim's wife having died, he and "Little Breeches" and Kate are united in a happy family. Supports include Billie Burke in the sixteenth chapter of "Gloria's Romance," entitled "A Modem Pirate," and the latest Pa the Gazette.
