TABANAKI WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION.

The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Provincial \\ ur Relief Association was held in Stratford on "Wednesday (repor/cs the Post), when there were pre-sents-Messrs W. P. Kirkwood (chairman), C. E. Bellriuger (New Plymouth), T. B. Crump (Eknam), A. Atkinson (Waitara). J. W. Winfield (Inglewood), J. Larcombe (Patea), the Rev. R. B. Tinsley (Egmont), and J. T. Stevenson (Manaia).

An application for a grant of £50 from a soldier made at a previous meeting and granted, was held up for consideration by the Eltham committee ito report. This body notified that they were not prepared to allow that amount, as the soldier's proper residence was not in the Taranaki district. Should the executive authorise the payment, however, it would be made, the amount in the meantime to be held in abeyance. It was decided to rescind the resolution, the Eltham committee to use their discretion in the matter.

The Hawera committee were recommended to make a grant of £2o for supplies to a returned man an:l £1 per week for 12 weeks. These amounts, it was stated, would tide the man over immediate expenditure until the milking season was again in full swing. rCegardmg a request for a. loan of £50 from Patea, it was reported that a cheque had been forwarded to the Patea committee on account of the applicant. An application was received from the Patea committee for financial assistance to a man in their district.—lt was resolved to grant a loan of £500 on the usual terms.

Mr Stevenson reported that his commsttee desired tha& the Association should endeavor to allow extension of time for payments of rent in the ease of applicants who had settled on Government property. The matter was held over as a recommendation to the Finance Committee.

Tho matter of the art union was deferred until reports from all the branch committees were in hand.

The New Plymouth delegate reported +hat a woman who had taken over her husband's work while he was at the front had got into debt to the extent of £45 and therefore applied for a loan. —The application was granted.

An application for a loan of £10 was granted. Reports showed that the applicant was in needful circumstances and was now school teaching. The Tnglewood delegate notified that a young man who had been wounded, found it impossible to undertake hard work owing to his injuries. A married brother wound render him every assistfnne in nurchasing stock, etc. The applicant bad about £200 of his own.
