■ s HAMILTON, July 9. A mysterious affair occurred at Frarikton. whereby a returned soldier named Thomas Henderson ivas serious, ly injured. The police, who were communicated with yesterday afternoon, round the young.man lying in Tapp's stables, suffering ' great pain He was •removed to the Waikato Hospital and examined, when a wound three Inches deep was found on the left side lower rib, which had penetrated the lungs. Ihe man's depositions were taken. He said his nam.e was Thos. Henderson, of Selwyn street, Onehunga. a returned soldier, and that he arrived in the district a few weeks ago from Palmerston. He had heen drinking, and \vas unable (to account for the present wound. *An examination of the clothing showed a round hole in the singlet, but no corresponding hole in either the vest, shirt, or coat, indicating that he was not wearing these when the wound was inflicted. An operation was performed, but the man's condition is precarious.
