*. (From Our Owh^Correspondent.) On Tuesday the second of the fortnightly euchre parties was held in the local hall. There were forty-eight play- ; ers, and all had a pleasant evening. Mrs Miekelson and Mrs McAsey tied for the ladies' prize (a bag of flour) and played off, with the result that Mrs McAsey , j won.- Mr Free, Matapu, won the gen, j tlemen's prize—a box of (tea. After supper dancing was kept Tip till aobut i 1 a.m., Miss Bluett supplying excellent music. ) Some of the school work was sent to | the Hawera Show and the result was creditable. Archie Coad got a first j prize for drawing of a bird, Harold i Dale a second for map drawing, and Thelma Ooad was very highly commended for writing. On Thursday the Te Ropti ladies were ; in charge of the Red Cross tent in Ha. i wera until about 6 p.m. The total iakings amounted to £78 5s Bd, which, was i very satisfactory considering" the in- i clemency of the weather. j The ne,w cheese factory is almost : completed, and lastTTeclnesday a 6moke I concert was held there to celebrate the i opening. It looks a fine, substantial, and icomy building, and is quite an ornament to the district.
