Carson's luncheon at the Savoy, Lord Beresford held up a plate displaying the manufacturer's name "Bauschen. Made m Weiden," exclaiming disgusterdly: "Here's a nrettv state of affairs; we are actually"dining off German plates. ' The majority of the guests smashed their ulates on the floor, and Lord Beresford added: "I could not have enjoyed my luncheon if I had known these were German plates.
