UNITED FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION

The quarterly meeting of this Association was held in the Foresters' Hall, Stratford, on Thursday afternoon. Present: Messrs C. D. Sole (president), F. Amoore (secretary and treasurer), Gilbert and Tunbridge (NewPlymouth), and F. Brabant (Waitara). A large amount of correspondence was dealt with. The executive ruled that the £30 limit applied to any number of admittances into a public hospital in any one year, and the secretary was instructed to again notify hospitals that the resolution of July, 1916, that the Association's liability must not exceed £30 for a patient in any one year, still holds good. The question of incurable cases was discussed, and, as the limit is £30, the matter was left in. abeyance. The president reported that there had been a considerable drain en the funds, as £1530 had been paid to hospital boards for the year on account of members and their families. The liabilities for the ensuing year were also high. j After discussion the delegates dei cided £liat the Association must still struggle on; the amount of good which was done far outweighed any temporary financial depression. On account of members the following amounts were passed for payment: New Plymouth hospital, £194 16s 6d; Pa tea hospital, £6 13s 6d; Hawera hospital, £36 9s; Stratford hospital, £90 18s; total, £328 17e. It was resolved that the annual meeting be held in Stratford on the 19th or 26th of July.
