NEW ZEALAND LINCOLNS IN AMERICA.

- The National Wool Grower, published at Salt Lake City, states that Mr William Riddell, of Oregon, some years ago imported a Lincoln ram from New Zealand, and two- years later he obtained two others. These rams were mated with his Englishbred Lincoln ewes, so that now practically all the flock contain 50 to 75 per cent of New Zealand blood. It is estimated that the New Zealand Lincoln carries about 30 per cent more wool than the American Lincoln, and' they are much shorter legged, and their heads are as well covered with wool as any ,Cotswold, The National Wool Grower further. states: "Last year the Wood Live Stock Company of Spencer, Idaho, imported from New Zealand 100 head of_ Lincoln range rams for use on Merino ewes. This company is much pleased with them, and last November purchased 60 head of New Zealand Lincoln ewes, but has not as yet succeeded in getting these ewes out of New Zealand, and may not be able to do so for some time. On account of war, space on the boats between New Zealand and San Francisco is very limited, and no .sheep will be accepted unless contracts for space are made a long time in advance. In addition to lack of space, freight rates, insurance, and every shipping expense has nearly doubled. After the war closes ; we anticipate a considerable trade m Lincolhs between this country and New Zealand, and this will be largely the result of a speech made at the National Wool Growers' Convention by Mr Edmund Clifton, of New Zealand, who happened to be in this country at that time." New Zealand Lincolhs and Romneys are likely to have a good opening in the United States after the war, in view of the campaign that has been started in favor of "more sheep, more wool."
