VICTORIA CROSS AWARD
AN AIRMAN'S FINE CONDUCT.
(Australian-N.Z. C.A. and Reuter.) (Received Feb. 13, 1.10 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, Feb. 12. The Press Bureau mentions that the Victoria Cross has been awarded to Sergeant Thomas Mottcrshead, of the Flying Corps, who, having been attacked at an altitude of 9000 feet, and had the tank pierced, and the aeroplane enveloped in flames, and though suffering extreme torture from burns, showed conspicuous bravery, presence of mind, and skill in selecting a landing place, and brought his machine back to the lines, his wonderful endurance and fortitude saving the observer's TTfe. Mottershead subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
