Owing to war conditions Miss M Hooker A.T.C.L., L.A.8.. who won the Koyal Academy Scholarship for Australasia in 1915, and had intended to go to London, has'decided to stay in Haw'er£- She is commencing the practice ?L « P^fession at her address No. 100, Princes Street. She has had a great record m musical and educational circles, and left the Sacred Hf art Convent, TWaru, only last year, where she was under the tuition of Mrs Mangos tor four years. Previous to that she was for several years with Miss D Keilly, of Hawera. In a letter to his parents (Mr and Mrs G. L. Jenness, of the Lower Hutt) written at Ottawa on the Bth December, Dr. Diamond Jenness, who wa s a' member of the Stefansson expedition says: "I have decided to stay at the Museum here for some months to work at ray report. Everyone seems to consider it more valuable than my fighting powers." Mr Jenness has not been, to England (says the Post), and is not at liberty to offer for the front at present. A Brisbane press message reports the death of the Most Rev. Robert Dunne who was the first Archbishop (Roman Catholic) of Brisbane. He was born in Tipperary in 1833, ordained a prest in 18...'0, consecrated Bishon of Br'iuane in 1882, and raised to t,he Archbishopric in 188 <. Mr J. Allan Macdonald, who is well known in theatrical circles in New Zealand, has been appointed general manager for the South Taranaki Amusement Company. Mr Macdonald first visited Hawera many years ago as manager, of the Black Family Musicians, and at a later period with the London Illusionist Company Maskelyne and Devant. More recently Mr Macdonald has been connected with picture theatres in various parts of Australia and New Zealand, and his experience has been a long and varied one. The South Taranaki Amusement Company are to be congratulated on securing his services.
