The strengthening of Roumanian re-. sistanca is described by Carl yon Weigand in a despatch to the World dated "With Falkenhayn's army between Bucar and Kimpolung on October 18." "Slowly and steadily," he writes, "the Roumanian attempts to check Falkenhayn's three columns through the passes-southward of Kronstadt are becoming stronger and more energetic. Not until they reached Bucar did the Roumanians seem to catch their breath, but demoralisation now appears to have given way to organised resistance and desperate attempts to assault the advancing columns, which for bravery, tenacity, and technical skill are as surprising in the last few days as was their former lack of these qualities. In consequence Falkenhayn's columns have been slowed down. The Roumanians appear to have many more guns here than" for the defence of Pre- < deal, and use them .with much better accuracyV'j ;"v-^-;V : /-,'.:-';..--- ' ■ ■'. "
