AN EXCITING EXPERIENCE

(BY TELEGRAPH —I'KESa . ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 25. The steamer Waimana, which arrired this morning, had an exciting-ex-perience .early in September when sixty miles off Ushant. Information was received from a neutral ship that a German submarine was ten miles ahead, the neutral vessel having aboard survivors from a British ship sunk by the submarine. The Waimana' zigzagged and met an English steamer, oil laden, and warned the latter, of the proximity of the submarine. , A few minutes later shots were fired and she saw shots being exchanged between the submarine and the oil ship. The Waimana received an S.O.S. call from tne English ship, but almost immediately came a second message saying th© submarine had gone away. The rest of the Waimana's voyage rag uneventful. ■
