MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

PERSONAL

Quite a gloom was cast over Manaia yesterday by the sad news of Mr Hugh Kearn's death. He was a brother of Mrs A. O'Donnell, Inaha 3 and of Mr James iKearns, Otakeho. Mr Hugh Kearns was a very old identity in this district, having o-esided with his brother on the Tikato road farm for over thirty years. He was a most conscientious man and a favorite with all who knew him. The residents of Manaia and district deeply sympathise with the relatives.

Mr and Mrs Cunningham, of Normanby road, have received a cable from their two sons that they are well, and at the present time in England. There was a very big crowd of people to listen tig the Manaia Municipal Brass Band playing the Dead March in Saul and the hymn "Abide With Me" en Sunday night after church, out of respect to one of their fellow bandsmen, Private Cecil Hill, who has laid down his life in France for his King and country.
