GARDEN PARTY.
A reminder is given of the gardens party to.be held at. Holly Bank on Wednesday afternoon in aid of th.c patriotic tund. it is unfortunate that there will be no half holiday on that day. Theiadies committee was quite unaware of the fact that there was to be a holiday on Monday wh.en fixing the date. So far as we m the country are concerned, l,aboa- Day .has no place on our calen?w 0f..h0 days. However, I feel sure tsnat all those who can possibly do sowill attend, and by their presence helpalong a deserving cause. PROPOSED RETURNED SOLDIERS'
T 4-' t ) he r.laf t- of the Okaiawa Ladies' Patriotic Committee a letteiwas received from the secietary of the Hawera Red Cross Society appealins: tor hinds in aid of the above club The ladies decided that they could not entertain the request, They had no funds to spare, and m addition they did not consider that they could be doing better work than they were at present To me it s.eems that this proposed club might very well be left alone until at least such time as the war is.over. There are many more urgent matters to engage our attention a.t present. The club might be very nice, but I quite fail to see that it is a necessity.
