HOSPITALS AND AMBULANCE
At a nxeeting of th e St. John Ambulance and Red Cross Society on October 19th, it was decided to cable a further sum of £500 to St. John's Gate, London, for New Zealand hospitals, as so many of our boys have been wounded in the recent severe fighting. A vote of thanks was passed to the following districts for donations, received towards t/he South Taranaki Motor Ambulance Fund:—Hawera £300, Opunake £125, Manaia £100, Patea £100, Kaponga £71 12s 6d. This total leaves a balance of £96 12s 6d over and above the cost of the ambulance, which will be cabled to pay for its running expenses, together with Eltnarn's quota when it comes to hand.
The secretary wishes to acknowledge a further sum of £25 from Whakamara (per Mr J. R. Murch), which makes their shop takings for September 30, £100 13s; also a donation of £12 10s from the Meremere school children (per Mrs Easton).
