CENTRAL POWERS' MOTIVES ■/■., INDICATED.
~ (Times' Message.) • (Received Oct. 13, 9.-25 a.m.) /LONDON, Oct. 12._ In the Roumanian. Parliament M. Basilesco said he believed the following are the motives animating the Central Powers Jn" their, attempt to crush Roumania: ' (1) Their victory there would mean the consolidation of German.; mastery from the North Sea tp the Persian Gulf, arid an invasion of Russia' from the south via Bessarabia; (2) it, !:would give them control of . the (Black Sea and perhaps a decisive victory in the east; and (3) -also secure for them vast Roumanian stores of corn, petroleum, benzine, mineral oils, salt, timber, and goods, the railways, and the system of Danube transport, besides: crops and exports.
. The Allies, be ..continued, would do their utmost to protect Roumania, thereby shortening the war and saving millions of i lives- and hundreds of ..millions in moriev. ' ;.
