TENNIS CLUB

The tennis club's annual social wus held on Wednesday evening, and was very well patronised. In the .earher part of the evening a large number participated in progressive euchre, whiie a-pmg-pong tournament .engaged the attention ,of several lovers of the game. ■ The euchre prizes were won by Miss - Keoghan and Mr J. Austin; the consolation prizes by Miss Sanson and Mr Blyth; and the ping-pong prize hy Mr A. Parkes. After supper had beenhanded, round, dancing was in till 12.30 a.m., the music being. gratuitously supplied by Mrs F. Hammond, and an extra played by Mr V. Hickey. Th e singing of the 'National i Anthem concluded a most enjoyable • evening. PATRIOTIC. A meeting of the Patriotic League was held on Thursday afternoon, and. was fairly well attended, Mr W. C. Dudley being in the chair. A concert, under the supervision and management of Mrs Rathbone, will be held next Wednesday. It was agreed that the proceeds of this concert be paid in to the.v■rvntled Soldiers' Fund. The Ladies' Guild agreed to make thetotal up to £125, and this amount will, be remitted to Hawera. The treasurer of the League has much' pleasure in acknowledging the receipt of a donation of £50 from the OpunakeRacing Olub, to be devoted to theWounded Soldiers' Fund) , CASUALTY LISTS. The chairman announced that recent casualty lists had contained the names of several local boys; namely, W. Peters* (next-of-kin, Mrs M. Peters, Opunake,. mother). Died of wounds: J. Sievwright (Mrs C. Donnelly, Opunake, sister). Dangerously ill from wounds received: A. Ward, of Rahotu. Wounded: Sid: Hickey (J. C. Hickey, Opunake, father). A motion of sympathy with the relatives of these boys was carried. BOWXING CLUB. The annual meeting of this club was' held on Friday evening there being a fair attendance.. In tha absence of the president, Mr W. C. Dudley was voted, to the chair. The balance-sheet, pre- [: sented by the treasurer, showed a small, credit balance, and was adopted. Apologies for absence were received: | from the late president (Mr C Sorrensen) and Mr AlLacfie. The following new members were - . elected: Messrs Clarke, W. S.Dudley,. } Walshe, Cleghorn and Rathbone. » A vote of sympathy was expressed , to Mr. M. J. Brennan on his recentsevere illness; members also expressed 3 regret that Mr Sorrensen had left the - district. Thsse two members have j worked most heartily for the welfare of i the club. .

Dudley; general committee: Messrs Burton, Parkes, Arthur, Dcs Forges, and Cornish; green committee: Messrs Judson, Dcs Forges and Cornish; green superintendent, Mr S. Parkes; selection committee: Messrs Brennan, Cornish and Burton; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. Hammond; auditor, Mr M. J. Brennan; delegate 'to Taranaki Bowling Centre, Mr J. Sole. A hearty vote of thanks was passed tothe outgoing officers:.

A letter was. read from Newtown Club, Wellington, thanking the local club for hospitality extended to members last season. .An invitation was received from Manaia Bowling Club to their opening day on Wednesday, 11th inst.
