PATRIOTIC ART UNIONS.

AN ALLEGED BREACH OF CONDITIONS.

BY TELEGRAPH" -PRESS ASSOCIATION. DANNEVIRKE, Feb. 21. Ine Dannevirke Patriotic Society, in an advertisement concerning a motor car art union. included the statement that "the'winner of the art union can take the ear or £850 in solid cash." This was done because one of the donors offered to give this amount if the winner did not want the car. The Assistant Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs has wired the committee that the advertisement is a distinct breach of the license. The object of the Government throughout has been to prevent raffling for money, which was purely gambling, and the advertisement was so serious a breach of the license that, unless it was immediately withdrawn, the papers would be handed to the police to take action.
