(From Our Own Correspondent.) THE "BOYS" IN~THE TRENCHES. . The Eltham Ladies' Guild are sending to-day two large cases of comforts for the "boys" in the trenches. The comforts consist chiefly of cakes, puddings, cigarettes and chocolates. PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE. At ft meeting of the Patriotic Committee held last night a resolution was passed protesting against the opposition to raffles for patriotic purposes. The sum of £10 was voted to the work of the Ladies' Guild. CARNIVAL QUEEN. The supporters of the Sports Candidate for the Carnival Queen had a'| very successful social and dance at the! Oddfellows' Hall ■ last night. The positions of the candidates, at present are:—Farmers' candidate 1, Combined Sports 2, Friendly Societies 3. The competition closes on the 7th of October,'when the result will be announced.
