STATEMENT BY SIR E. GREY.

What she may expect from GERMANY.

(Received Sept. 29, 2.30 p.m.)

LONDON, Sept. 28. Sir E. Grey, m the House of Com- i mons, said not only, was there no hostility oetween England and Bulgaria, but there was a traditional sympathy with the Bulgarian people. So long as Bulgaria did not side with Britain's ' enemies there was no question of Britisn influence being a hostile force against Bulgaria, If Bulgaria's mobilisation were a result of aggressive atti- ! tude we are prepared to give our friends m the Balkans all the support | in our power, in the manner most welcome to them in concert with our' Allies, without reserve or qualification These are also the views of the Allies. Uur policy has been to secure an agreement among the Balkan States, ensuring their Drilhant future and independence based on territorial and political union of kindred nationalities. (Cheers).

Ihe German policy, on the other hand, had been to create for her own purpose disunion. The war in the Balkans was used by Austria to precipitate a European war, as a result of which the Turkish Empire had been completely subordinated. Turkish interest would have been nreserved if she had remained neutral", but she was forced by Germany into the war to realise German aspirations from Berlin to Bagdad. In the same way it would only be .German policy to use Bulgaria, with the inevitable result that Bulgaria would be subordinated, and, though promised territorial gains, would lose her independence.
