FATAL BURNS

DUNEDINj Sept. 9. A distressing burning accident, whereby Mrs Pennycook, wife of Cap-: tain Pennycook, proprietor of the Glutha leader*, lost her life ? occurred at Balclutha early this morning. Early this, morning she left her bed and stood beside the fire. By some means her nightdress caught fire. Her screams awakened a son and daughter,, who extinguished the flames, but the shock to the system was so severe that death occurred about mid-day. Captain Pennycook is on his way to the Dardanelles in charge of the Otago detachment of - the Sixth Reinforcements.
