During a discussion of the Tamworth district council^ of the Farmers'" Set-? tiers' Association j a , motion y?as proi' posed that," in view of reports that more recruits vere offering than could be equipped, Mr Pearce 'should be asked to allow farmer recruits to return home for harvest. Mr Pankhurst suggested that there were a number of small farmers in New Zealand-, where the harvest \was later.than r in; Australia, who might be persuaded to come and help. The motion was carried. MELBOURNE, Sept. 3, In the House a Public Service Bill, giving preference to returned soldiers, passed all stages. Five deaths and six fresh cases of meningitis are reported. There have been ninety-six death* to date. BRISBANE, Sept. 3. ' Several cases of meningitis at military camps are reported. A proclamation has been issued reducing by £2 2s 6d the price of flour other than that made from wheat imported.
