CANNOT BE VANQUISHED BY

(Received June 18, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 17. It is understood that the Govern--ment," with the assent of the trade unions, has resolved to ask for greater powers than are conferred in the Defence of the Realm Act to deal with labor; A new measure will probably be introduced next week to" increase the mobility of labor and limit profits in controlled establishments, where all ■"trade.union restrictions will be abolished and committees appointed to inflict fines for slackness.
The heads of the principal agricultural organisations urge preparation of a national scheme for organised agri•culture to secure increased production i>y assuring farmers that generous expenditure on farming will be repaid by remunerative prices. The scheme, which should be largely worked on a co-operative basis, should cover four years, fix the Government's responsibility for prices, and secure necessary labor.
The Daily Mail urges the Government to hasten the production of machine guns by placing orders without -limit in Britain, Canada, and the United States. The Mail says that tne Germans are virtually substituting -men armed with machine guns for the old-fashioned infantry armed with Tifles, and experience proves that an army which attempts to fight machine guns with rifles fs committing the same mistake as a man who attempt* ±o run a footrace against a locomotive.
