ENEMY REPORTS ON OPERATIONS

LARGE CAPTURES IN GALICIA

CLAIMED

BERLIN, June 17. A communique states that, influenced by the Russian defeat, the French and English made strong attacks on many points. The English, near Ypres, slightly pushed back our positions north of Lake Village towards Belle, where fighting continues. Two attacks of four English divisions between the Estaires-La Bassee road and the canal compeltely collapsed. The Westphalians reinforced a portion of the Guard and repulsed this attack after desperate hand-to-hand fighting, in which the British suffered severely. We captured several machine guns and one mine-throwing howitzer. We defeated the Russians' attempted arrest of the pursuit on Wednesday on the San front between Sieniawa and the Dneister marshes. After hard fighting the Russians were thrown out of their positions by evening. Since June 12, General Mackensen has taken 40,000 prisoners and captured 69 machine guns. The Russians gained some ground between the Dneister marshes and Zuawand. An Austrian official report says: ■ — During the last fifteen days we captured 100 Russian officers, 122,300 men, j 53 cannon, 187 machine guns, and 558 'waggons. > The Italians were everywhere repulsed.
