Patea County Council "thirds" proposal for expenditure of £89 3s lld, iMoturoa Road Board "thirds" proposals for expenditure of £1 13s lOd, and Wairoa Road Board "thirds" proposals for expenditure of £16 6s 6d were all anorbved.

Tbe Assistant-Under-Socretary for Lands forwarded'an opinion from the Crown Law officer as to the power of the Land Board to accept surrender of leases of education reserves. —Received.

Five applications for consents to mortgage were granted, subject to the usual conditions.

The Stratford Courty engineer, with Mrs J. Weybourne, lessee of E.R., section 10, Wanganui district, waited on the Board with regard to the council's authority to remove metal from the holding for public purposes. The chairman (Mr Bullard) explained the position, pointing out that no lessee had the right to dispose of metal or gravel by way of royalty or sale, as being a breach of the implied covenant in the lease against "waste," and that any royalty on that account would be claimed by the Department for the Endowment Fund.
