SUGAR SUPPLIES.
MELBOURNE, May 27., In the House, Mr Hughes, in reply to questions, said Mr Knox's cable accepting the offer of 2500 tona of Java sugar at. a price something over £16 a ton was delayed twenty-four hours. No others were delayed. He explained that Mr Knox said that 11,000 tons had been already bought, and the Government was endeavoring to ascertain, the circumstances of the purchase aa that they might know whether the price asked by Mr Kndx was a fair one. He added that as a result of his enquiries Australia gouM he supplied, for the Government could ensure a full quantity of sugar.
