A LIFEBOAT TRAGEDY

When the Bridlington lifeboat was being launched to the assistance of a trawler, driven .ashore oil the British coast in a gale early on the morning of March 19th, tlie heavy seas took the horses off their feet and the lifeboat carriage stuck fast in the surf.

One of the horsemen, Tom Lake, on being rescued, told his rescuers to "Save poor Bob" (another rider), adding, "I could not save him. I told him to cut the harness, but he said he coudn't."

It was too late to save this man, Bob Carr, and he was drowned, fastened to his horse. Other helpers at the launch had wonderful escapes.

The trawler, with its crew of twelve, was lost. Seven bodies, including that of the master, J. R. Dawson, of Gorleston, were washed ashore.
