HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MESSAGE

RUSSIAN OPERATIONS

In Galicia the enemy was forced by our counter-attacks to pass gradually to the defensive along almost the whole front, except in the sectors near YartiJhol, Podvoiine and Gussakuvo. whore on Saturday the enemy unsuccessfully attempted an attack on the Russians. The offensive, which opened on Saturday, and is being pursued along the left bank cf the Dneister, developed en Sunday with great success, job withstanding counter-attacks. The Russians captured, after a fight, the new and old villages of Bourchitze, the villages of Ichehnikhuff and Holobove and part of the village of Obstruve. In the course •of the day they took 2200 prisoners, 40 officers, dozens of machine guns and a great quantity of war material. In the Trans-Dneister region there was a lull except between Achetchva and Lomaiitza, where the enemy during, the might of Sunday made a fruitless attempt to attack.
