GERMAN POLITICAL MISSION.
TO INCITE^ABYSSINIA
A German political .mission, headed by the explorer Herr *Frobenius (a irlend "of the *-.. Kaiser), recently, travelled, by way of the, Balkan States and Turkey, to the Red Sea, and attempted to penetrate to . Abyssinia through the Italian Red Sea colony of Erithrea. The Italian authorities' refused right of passage, and the foiled mission returned to Germany, via Italy. It is^ suspected that the object of this mission was to instigate the Abyssinians to attack British forces in the Soudan.' This the Germans deny, saying their purpose was. only to carry a mail to the German Minister to Abyssinia. This denial .has been met by Italian newspapers with a recital of the composition of the mission, and also by the fact that it travelled through Rumania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and 'Asia Minor before landing on the Arabian Red Sea coast near Akabah. From Akabah the travellers. crossed the Red Sea to Massowa, capital of the Italian colony Erithrea. "It was on this trip that a French cruiser overhauled and nearly captured them. The native bo?tt chartered by ' the mission _yeas thoroughly searched by the French officers, but the four Germans had so carefully hidden themseves that they remained undiscovered; Though Italy did not permit them passage through Erithrea, she undertook to see that the mail for the German Minister to Abyssinia would go forward in due course.
