WAIMATE PLAINS' TROTTING CLUB.

GENERAL MEETING. An enthusiastic general meeting' of members of the recently resuscitated Waimate Plains Trotting Club was held in Mr J. Tin-ton's office on Tuesday evening. There was an attendance of between fifty and sixty persons, and Mr E. Nalder was voted to" the .chair. An apology" for absence was received from Mr J. Crocker, and also from Mr R.. gratifying. Everywhere in the district settlers were keen to become members, ' and he ventured to say that so far he club had a membership of anything, between 200 and 250 members, arid he did not think there would be any ~ trouble in .obtaining another 150. The Chairman moved that the offi- ' cers of the club consist of a president and one vice-president. Mr Butler seconded the proposition. An amendment was moved that the club have three vice-presidents. i The amendment was lost, and the motion was carried; For the office of president, Messrs R. Hicks and R. H. Nolan were nominated. . It was' decided that the representation of the districts the stewards be as follows: Hawera and Patea 3,Stratford 2, Waimate 2, New Plymouth 1. - The following stewards were elected: Messrs R. Mqrrissey, D. J. Goodwin, R. Hicks (Hawei;a), T. R. Mounsey, A J. Davy (Stratford), M. Jones (New Plymouth), W. J. Bradford, A. C. Johnstone (Waimate). Five applications were received for the position of secretary to the club, and Mr E. Nalder was elected During the balloting for the office of secretary Mr Nalder vacated the chair, and Mr Turton presided. It was decided that two dozen copies of the rules of trotting be obtamed and distributed to the members of the committee and stewards. It was agreed that it be a recommendation to the committee that the value of the stakes for the first meeting be between £450 and £500, distributed over seven races. Mr J. Turton was elected auditor. With regard to remuneration, Mr Turton said he would do the work for the first year free of charge as a contribution to the club's funds. (Applause.) Mr U. Shannon was appointed handicapper and Mr A. Morse asS2S__; nt' X° handicapper as starter. The Chairman thanked the members for their attendance, and especially those who had attended from long distances, and for their interest in the club. The usual compliment to the chairman concluded the meeting.
