SUPPOSED SUICIDE

DUNEDIN, May 25 * A man named John George Smyth died at th.c hospital this afternoon" under conditions pointing to suicide. Deceased, who was about 44 years of age, had been living apart from his wife and family of several children for some time. About 3.40 p.m. he came downstairs in +he house at which he stayed and in his hand was a bottle which contained poison. His landlady tried to stop him from drinking the contents, hut faited, and she sent for the police. Smyth was taken" to the hospital, but died soon after admission.
