AUROA.
EMPIRE DAY.
(Fbojt OueOwn Correspondent.) In response to an invitation given by the Auroa school, a very large number of parents and friends were present at the school in order to celebrate Empire Day. The programme' included speeches, songs, recitations and nhysical drill. *-"-j*l
c-? Ir. AA' B. adford, chairman of the School Committee, presided, and stated that the ■ object of the meeting was to express their loyalty to their King and country. Miss gave a patriotic recitation, which was much enjoyed as was also the patriotic song given' by Mr Hooker, of Hawera. The children, «n----der Miss Mowbray's able tuition, gave various physical exercises with great skill. Altogether a mpst entertainmg and interesting programme was rubnutted to the audience, the fine bright day contributing in no little degree°to the enjoyment.
_, Mr..l) r>ea ' of Hawera, representing the Hanganui Education Board, was present, and made a very good speech .in which he thanked the Auroa folk for the privilege^ of "feeing present at such a pleasing function. An excellent afternoon tea was handed round, and after the singing of the National .Anthem, the oeoole wended their way.homeward, all agreeing that the ce'ebration of Empire Day m Auroa Avas the very best of its kind they lad ever attended.
