FATAL TUNNEL ACCIDENT.

AUCKLAND, May 23. A serious railway accident occurred at Kaikohe railway tunnel yesterday, by. which Mr Charles Betts, one of the partners to the contract, was badly injured and Peter Maloney was killed. The latter was a native of the West Coast. The cause of the accident was that one of the shoulder bars in the tunnel suddenly gave way, pinning the two men down. Both had to be dug out.
