Mr Charles Banks has retired from the position of Engineer of Waitaki County Council after 31 years' service. At a. farewell gathering, Mr Banks wae presented with silver plate by present and former members of the Council. A Ixmdon cable message states that Captain Edward Lycett Lyon, of the ISth Hussars, one of Lord Liverpool's A's.D.C.j has been wounded. Mrs Colson, relict of the late Mr Alexander Colson, died at New Plymouth on Sunday, at the age of oO years. The deceased lady was one of Taranaki's earliest settlers. . j Mrs Halcombe, wife of Mr A. Colonel Montague Wynyard, who died in England at the end of March, visited New Zealand in 1901 in command of the representative contingent of Imperial troops which came to Australia for the Commonwealth inauguration celebrations, and subsequently visited the chief centres of the Dominion.
