NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW.
On the suggestion of and by, arrangement witn Processor' Kirk, of the Department or" Agriculture,' the committee has decided to provide space in I the produce hall for fruit grading and packing demonstrations; also compet:- t tions. The competitions Uvill be £eld on the second and third days. Ihey \ will be open to all-comers, with first and gfeec-nd prizes or £1 Is and 10s 6d. The Department's packers, will act as judges, and •prize-winners on the first day will not be eligible to compete on the second day. This is quite a new j departure, but it is, is in the right I direction, tending as it should towards the improvement of the grading and packing of fruit. This industry is assuming sach proportions now that the is using every endeavor to keep pace with the reauirements ot growers. There is no doubt that the magnificent displays of apples staged at th^. National Dairy Show are not excelled or even approached in the Dominion. It is hoped that a very valuable championship trophy will oe provided before next year's show, wnich will prove an additional incentive to growers. The list of classes provided is > a very large one, and good prizemoney awaits the successful competitor. The competitions just mentioned are not in the schedule, but all infor- ! nxation may be obtained from the secretary, Mr W. T. Penny, Box 85, Palmerston North.
