PROGRESS IN FLANDERS.

The French Embassy communique states: The Germans gained a foothold in French trenches northward ot Ypres and eastward of the Icser Canal, but an immediate counter-attack drove them back, enabling the French to occupy some ground beyond their original position.. We-took 120 prisoners. The British made some progress northward of La Bassee.
