WELLINGTON, May 18. The High Commissioner telegraphs under date May 17: — I paid a visit to the Birmingham hospital yesterday, and saw a number of wounded men * belonging to the Expeditionary Force, and was present when others arrived. All were in good heart and cheerful, and were anxious to return to active service. Some hope to be soon convalescent. I was unable to go to the Chiehester Hospital, but Sir Newton Moore saw the men there on my behalf, and reported officially that all wera doing well. The following are in the. WELLINGTON, May 18. The Hon. A. L. Herclman announced on behalf of the Government at a patriotic meeting to-night, that His Excel? lency the Governor had offered the use of Government House at Auckland for wounded soldier* returning to New Zealand. Other offers of a similar nature received l>y the Government were:--Mr Clms. Izard, of Wellington, the tise of his house at the Upper Hutt; the Hon. H. D. Bell, the use of three houses at Lawry Bay, Wellington; the Hon. R. H. Shades, the use of Elmwood, Papanui road, Christelmroh; Mr J. Buckley, the use of his homestead, Red Castle, near Oamaru. .
