BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY.

The New Zealand agent of the British and Foreign Bible Society has, forwarded the statement of the amount raised in New Zealand during 1914. In the whole of New Zealand about £1450 was raised: North Auckland, about £11; Auckland, £200; South Auckland, £63; Bay of Plenty, £31; Taranaki, £136; Wanganui, £200; Manawatu, £79; Poverty Bay £96, tfawke's (Bay, £225; Wairarapa, £82; Wellington, £50; Nelson, £9; Westland, £16; North Canterbury and Christchurch, £125; South Canterbury, £118; miscellaneous, £9. Various places in Taranaki contributed as follows: Eltham £5 19s 9d, Hawera £6 13s, Manaia £8 5s 3d, New Plymouth £35 12s Id, Opunake £2 12s, Patea £47 ss, Stratford £3 15s, Waitara £2, miscellaneous, £23 16s 6d; total, £135 18s 7d. At the present time the Society is particularly busy in ' supplying belligerents of all nations with suitably bound copies of the Scriptures or a portion of them, each in their own language. In Japan the hold the Bible has gained upon the leaders in uhat Empire is remarkable; the Premier, Count Okuma, has invited the Work! Sunday School Convention to have its next conference at Tokio in 1916. When asked by an American gentleman what led him to do this, he replied: "1 have in mind the establishment •of Sunday Schools throughout the Empire, so that all (both old and young) may spjnd their Sundays in^ studying the Bible." The Society's work for 1914 is interestingly sot cut in a vellprmted, illustrated volume of close on 140 pages.
