THE NEW COMET.

*J£> + a °, omet ported by the Goveinment Astronomer at Melbourne as visible towards the south-east was easily picked up in Wanganui on Tuesday evening by Mr J. T Ward honorary director of the Observatory (says the Chronicle). It was seen at once in a casual naked-eye search of the sky and was afterwards observed in the telescope at the observatory. Its position at 8 p.m. was Right Ascension lhr 52mm; Declination South 55 cleg 46mm. It formed very nearly a right angle with the Alphas and Eridanus, and Hydrus, towards the northeast of the two. It is, so far, too early to say what its motion may be, but it direct and towards the sun it should presently develop into a fine object.
