Dovey,adjutant of the 2nd Queen Alexandra^ Mounted Rifles, ' left for Wellington this morning on busin ess connected with his regiment. , We regret to hear of the death of one of our oldest settlers, Mr; James Lomax, who died on Sunday at Ms residence, 169 Glasgow Street, aged 92 (says . the Wanganui Herald). Mr. Lomax, whowas a native, of London, came to this part of the world as a young man. He was, married in the Auckland Islands in • 1849, the official celebrant being Sir Charles Enderby, whose name was? well known in the old whaling days. Two years later Mr. Lomax came to Wanganui, arid has resided .continuously in;the district for. the '63 years since elapsed; For some' 33 years he followed farming pursuits at Kaitoke and Sedgebrook, and since then he has lived in retirement. Mr. Lomax, whose • wife predeceased him seven months ago, leaves five sons and four daughters;— Messrs James P., of Otaki;Charles, of Sydney; William, of; Feilding; Harry P., of Auckland; and Percy B.
