WHITE ISLAND.
AUCKLAND, Sep. 22. Sergeant. Matthews telegraphed to Superintendent Kieley this afternoon: Just landed at "White Island. No trace of anything. Everything buried, including the sheds, machinery and camp. It appears as, if about twenty acres had been blown up. The lake has disappeared. Presumably the eruption occurred a fortnight ago. *
