SHIPS FOR OUR, PRODUCE.
It will be very comforting to the producing interests if assurances can be given at an early date that there will be satisfactory mercantile shipping arrangements during the next few months. Anxiety is certainly being increased by the delay in the departure of the vessels converted into military transports. , Had these got away, as was hoped, several weeks ago, there would have been a better prospect than there now seems to be of some of them ! returning in time to be of service in the carriage of part of this season's produce. We have no doubt that "the powers that be" are keenly alive to the importance of the matter and that they are doing their utmost to deal with the problem. But it is as well to voice what we know to be the feeling of anxiety very generally entertained in the country districts as well as in the commercial centres of the Dominion. We hope that very soon the Govern-! ment-may be able to give satisfactory information on the subject. [It will be' seen by th© report of Parliamentary proceedings to-day that the Premier says there will be ample facilities for export up to 31st December, and that further, arrangements are under consideration.]
