Civilian volunteers who hive registered their applications with Sergt.--7>lajor Dud.son in Havrera, or with other Defence office officials in other centres, should take note that .it is impossible to tell them definitely until Satrarday morning whether their services will be accepted or not. then Captain Stevens, group ooitfimander, 'will definitely select (from the list of civilian volunteers who have handed in their names at Hawera or at other centres) those whom he thinks best suited either for the infantry regiment or mounted rifles. The successful applicants for the infantry will be despatched probably on Monday, August 17, to New Plymouth, for medical examination and for swearing in. The successful applicants for the Mounted Rifles (those with horses will have preference) will be ordered to remain or join at Hawera, and will similarly be medically examined and attested here Both the 11th Regiment Infantry and 2nd Mounted Rifles will fit out the civilian recruits handed over to them with uniform and equipment, and will despatch drafts as soon as fitted out, during next week to the concentration camp at Palmerston North. These drafts on arrival at Palmerston North, will be allotted to the units with which they will go to the front, and when all drafts have been received at Palmerston North from Taranaki, Gisborne, Napier, Maste-ton an;l other parts of the Wellington mi'ifcary district, the Aviro'e force v. ill be moved down to Wellington and embarked on board ship. Disciplinary rules affecting those volunteers awaiting final drafting, will be issued by Captain Dovey, adjutant of the 2nd Mounted Rifles, to whose regiment they are posted.
