PATRIOTIC CATERING
Captain Stevens, group co::;'i;nncle' wishes to cordially thank the various hotel proprietors in Hawera who have responded to his appeal to cater at the reduced rate of Is per meal for those civilian volunteers from all parts of Taranaki who will, in a few f':»vs. he concentrated in Hawera, prepr.ntcvy tobeing finally selected for service nnd drafted to the infantry or Mounted Rifle regiment in Taranaki. The idea (which was patriotically put forward by Mr Gormley, of the Egmont Hotel) has already been generously responded to by Mr Gibson (Koval). Mrs Cramn (Ceritral), Mr New (Empire1), and Mr Hook (Commercial), and doubtless all other hosts will fall in line, and solunteers will be able," on presenting a ticket issued by the Defence office, to get free meals at various hotels for a low sum payable by the Defence Department.
This k a practical form of help, which will greatly aid the Defence authorities and relieve them of the problem of catering. Captain Stevens will be glad to hear from any other proprietors of hotels or boarding-houses whom pressure of work alone has prevented hi>n calling on personally whether they will accept Is tickets from the Defence Department, signed by him, in lieu <f cash from war volunteers for the i.ext rew ck\v«, and pro/ide meals in this manner.
