The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd , have received the following advice from their London office, under date July 3rd:— Frozen Meat: The extreme heat experienced this week has materially checked the demand both for mutton and lamb and prices generally have tended in buyers favor. Frozen beef has been neglected, buyers filling their requirements with River Plate chilled, which has been m heavy supply and cheap, as low as 2jd per lb having been accepted tor forequarters We quote: Canterbury mutton 3:] dto 4j|d per lb: North i jn<k' 3 *d to 4->d> Australian 3|d to 4H, Canterbury lamb o|d to 6fd per lb; North Island 5Jd to 6jd, Australian sid to s|d: New Zealand beef 31d to 4fd per lb. «n° the hooks.
A cable message from London reporfs the death of Sir Charles Lucas, who was the first to win the Victoria Cross
Through the accidental dropping out of a figure in the article on road-mak-ing plant installed by the Eltham County Council, it appeared as though only 6 per cent, would be saved by using the motor instead of horses. * The saving will actually be 66 per cent.
