MANGATOKI.

(Fuoai Otm Own Coiuiespondent.) The recently formed Northern Union! Football Club (H: H. Evans, hon. see.) \ has entered a team for the cup at j this end, and played its first match against Eltham last Thursday, the resuit being *18 to 10. At a practice match some time before Eltham I notched a big score against the local j men, .but since then they have considerably invoroved, and will do so'as' they become more conversant with j the rules. 1 The school match Mangatoki versus j Kaponga, played at Manrpatoki last Saturday, was a walk over • for the visiting *.team. They had a strong team in the field, the boys being heavier, fleeter, and having more knowledge,of the game than their opponents. Of the score, 82 "to nil, nearly all the tries were scored in the 'first spell. In the second, Mangatoki opened out more and held ■ their own, and played a hard game right to the finish. The annual gathering of the local branch of the Farmers' Union took the usual "form'of a euchre match-with Lowgarth. and a large gathering of Mangatoki residents attended. Lowgarth was not in such force as in previous years. but all the same managed to befit their opponents by 53 games to 51. Mr Mc'G'uinness . (secretary of the local branch) had • gone to considerable nains in providing entertainment for the visitors, and it is gratifying to theiii to know that everything was a success. After euchre, supper was -oartaken of, and the usual dance finished up. The Cooper Orchestra supplied the music, and Mr J. Fearon •acted as M.C. The secretary, during the evening, thanked Lowgarth for responding to their challenge, -and' announced that- a return match would i take place at some time to be announced. Petty -ilfering has taken place on more than one occasion at hall gatherings. Offenders might take warning that they in future .will be closely watched "and exposure will follow detection. , The secretary of the Sports Club has asked me to state that at a meeting held a short time since a special and hearty vote of thanks was carried and instructed to be conveyed to all those who helped with the supper at their last ball —namely, Mesdames Perry. Gifford, Flamiigan. Rogers, Corkill, and Misses Lambie, Phillips, Curteis and Poynton.

PERSONAL
