A somewhat unusual application was made at the Amberley Court lately in respect of a young man charged with failing to attend the Kowai camp. Counsel pleaded "Guilty/* and said that the father had no objection to the drill being done by his boys. A few years ago, however, he had" lost a son through a gun accident, and wanted te know if this boy could do his drill without using a rifle. The military officer "present said that ammunition could j only be used on the range, and under ! the control of a p~i*oper officer. The Magistrate (Mr T. A. B. Bailey) said he did not think the' request could be granted A fine of £1 was imposed for failure to attend the camp. Adult Book-keeping class To-night at Technical School.
