AWATUNA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Quite a number of settlers, both •Id and new, are selling out this season, several properties.having changed hands at a substantial rise in values. Mr S. Weston. of the Oeo road, who has been in the district for only. a short time, has disposed of* his farm and intends settling in the Levin district. "The departure of the Weston family will be regretted by all who had the pleasure of their acquaintance ; Mrs and Miss Weston especially will be missed in church circles.

Mr Tom Creery is also leaving us, having disposed of his interest in the farm. Tom is one of our oldest settlors, and some 14 or 15 years ago worked for Mr Mortleman on the farm which he now occupies. We shall all mi6s him very much, especially at harvest time. .

The weather has been very wet and squally for some few weeks past, and at the time of •writing it is blowing "a few." .

A large number of the settlers of the district journeyed to Opunake to take part in the ceremony of turning the first sod of the railway. Your own was not there, but was not missed, and I understand they managed very' well without me.
