DISCUSSION ON THE BUDGET.
: LONDON, May 6. Mr Austin Chamberlain criticised the Budget for its abandonment of the old Liberal policy of retrenchment. He deacribed Mr Lloyd George as an unchecked initiator of social reforms.
' Mr Montagu (Under-Secretary for India) replied that the unequal .distribution of wealth was indefensible unless it could be shown that its possessors made an adequate contribution to the State's requirements. He emphasised ihe'fact that capital was growing faster than the taxes. The Administration's reduction of the National debt saved three millions a year in interest.
